Source rock potential, crude oil characteristics and oil-to-source rock correlation in a Central Paratethys sub-basin, the Hungarian Palaeogene Basin (Pannonian basin)

چکیده

Eocene and Lower Oligocene rocks are potential source for crude oil accumulations in the Hungarian Palaeogene Basin. To enhance understanding of hydrocarbon system, this study (i) assesses petroleum formations, (ii) characterises rock facies accumulated oils, (iii) provides an oil-to-source correlation. Rock-Eval data samples from three boreholes (W–1, W–9 W–12) show that most formations mature at depths exceeding 2.1–2.5 km. The coal-bearing Kosd Formation includes good to excellent gas- (and oil-) prone rocks. overlying Buda Marl is typically organic matter-lean but contains oil-prone with up 2.3 wt% TOC a fair borehole W–9. Tard Clay W–12 reaches 1.9 shows HI values 440 mg HC/g TOC, characterising deposits as Based on low contents, Kiscell not considered rock. Molecular parameters 12 indicate shaly deposited marine/brackish environment. Salinity stratification, causing development oxygen-depleted conditions, likely. matter dominated by aquatic biomass, including algae, dinoflagellates chemoautotrophic bacteria. Minor angiosperm-dominated was transported into basin shoreline. Specific V-shaped compound-specific carbon isotope patterns n-alkanes observed oils extracts prove dominant differences between biomarker ratios related vertical lateral variations within Formation. slightly more than W–12.

Paleozoic oil±source rock correlations in the Tarim basin, NW China

We studied a suite of 40 oils and extracts of purported source rocks from the Tarim basin in NW China. The main group of oils comes from Tazhong and Tabei wells, which sample the largest known petroleum accumulations in the basin. These oils can be statistically correlated with extracts of Ordovician rocks based upon high relative concentrations of 24-isopropylcholestanes and low relative conce...

Organic Geochemical Evaluation of Madbi Source Rock, Al-Jawf Basin, NE Central Yemen

Organic geochemical evaluation of the Madbi Formation as the main source rock of the Al-Jawf Basin, NE Central Yemen was the main objective of this study. The organic geochemical methods used in the study include: rock-eval pyrolysis, total organic carbon, and optical measurements as the vitrinite reflectance and thermal alteration index. In this study, 67 well core and side-well core samples o...

Depositional Environment and Source Potential of Devonian Source Rock, Ghadames Basin, Southern Tunisia

Depositional environment and source potential of the different organic-rich levels of Devonian age (up to 990m thick) from the onshore EC-1 well (Southern Tunisia) were investigated based on the analysis of more than 130 cutting samples by different geochemical techniques (Rock-Eval pyrolysis, GC-MS). The obtained results including Rock Eval Pyrolysis data and biomarker distribution (terpanes, ...

Application of Discriminant Analysis for Studying the Source Rock Potential of Probable Formations in the Lorestan Basin, Iran

Understanding the performance and role of each formation in a petroleum play is crucial for the efficient and precise exploration and exploitation of trapped hydrocarbons in a sedimentary basin. The Lorestan basin is one of the most important hydrocarbon basins of Iran, and it includes various oil-prone potential source rocks and reservoir rocks. Previous geochemical studies of the basin were n...

Source Rock evaluation, Modelling, Maturation, and Reservoir characterization of the Block 18 oilfields, Sab’atayn Basin, Yemen

A total of 183 core and cutting samples from seven exploratory wells were selected to be analyzed by Rock-Eval pyrolysis. These cores have been drilled through the Lam and Meem Members of the Madbi Formation and contain the major source rocks of Yemen´s sedimentary basins. Contents of total organic carbon were measured and Rock-Eval pyrolysis was performed to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential ...
